March 1st : KARNIVAL!!!

Been awhile since an update. Papa Ghostbeard on this two kid steeze is a bit busy to making mixes. But not so busy to refuse an offer from the man called Poirier to come warm up the joint for the forthcoming edition his legendary Karnival party as part of Nuit Blanche. Consider this your early Sud-West 2014 toe-tip.

Oct 31st : Amon Tobin presents Two Fingers

Well now this is a Halloween! It’s been a long time since I’ve shared a bill with my homey Amon. Not since after-parties on that Amon/Bonobo/Prefuse 73 tour I tour managed (memories…). But after stressing the shit out of each other building his ISAM show, it’s time to relax and just thrown down some jams on a good old DJ night. Our good friend Eskmo rounds out the night. Come through. This will be ridiculous.

Sud-West Returns

It’s The Return Of The Sud-West

Oh Montreal. Despite your mafia kick-backs, crumbling infrastructure, media fed language politics, and orange cones we still love the shit out of you. And it’s with that, that it’s the time of the year again when man called Poirier & man called Ghostbeard set up their completely recession and corruption proof sound-system in St. Henri.

Now on year 5, the Sud-West name travels arounds but our spiritual home is always on the St. Ambroise Terrace. Get ready for another summer of Tuesday’s spent canal side. We understand that your tax dollars went to stuff a safe at city hall, so that’s why ourselves and the good folks at St. Ambroise continue to keep this going for free.

Beats, BBQ, Beer.

*note the new time of 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM.

Where : St. Ambroise Terrace (5080 St. Ambroise)
When : Last Tuesday of each month from May – August.
Cost : Free!
Time : 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Ghostbeard : Live At Budokan

Budokan

Back in December of 2012 I found myself in Toyko with the Amon Tobin “ISAM Live” tour. Taking 4000 pounds worth of stage design to the other side of the world seemed like a perfectly good excuse to spend an extra 7 days tooling around Tokyo. And of course my first mission was to find the good reggae shops. You know when you’re in a record store and the reggae bin consists of like two good records and a bunch of UB40 and you wonder “where are all the good used reggae records”… well they’re all in Japan. So after spending a ludicrous amount of money on a large stack of Jamaican classics, I turned my attention to the local bins. I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about the Japanese reggae scene. Except to say I found some amazing records and that it sounds like they all grew up on On U Sound classics. I don’t know if these are the freshest tunes out of Japan or like 10 years old or whatever. This is just some awesome stuff I finally found the time to mix together (Ghostdad has slowed down the output…).

Nov 9th : Sud-West International

After successful international travels for a four night stint at this year Jazz Fest, and a previous visit to warm up the Igloofest, it’s that time again for us to leave our St Ambroise terrace St Henri home and go international. What lies east of Atwater? I guess we’ll find out as we head for a rare non summer Sud-West up on the Plateau. But we’ve heard rumours that people in other neighbourhoods know how to get down. Our Turcot weighs a ton…son.

Nov 17th : Blockhead

Swing by Belmont on Saturday Nov 17th. I’ll be joining my Ninja Tune homey & Aesop Rock producer Blockhead for an evening of beats. Should also note that the mighty Death Grips are playing an earlier show at Corona that night. Which I will not be playing at but wholeheartedly also endorse. We can share a taxi up the Belmont after…

Oct 20th : Slugabed

Get off the couch for this one this Saturday (it’s not like there’s any hockey on anyway…). I’ll be joining one of the newer signings to the Ninja Tune roster, Slugabed. Dude sampled Yes… now that’s a guy I can hang with.
